President Trump signed a directive moving America one step closer to creating a space force.

The president is directing the Pentagon to draft legislation for Congress to create a space force which would become the sixth branch of the armed forces.

The space force commander would become a participating member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Trump said it’s an acknowledgment that America’s adversaries are developing military capabilities in space and that America must meet the threat in the decades to come.

President Trump said during the signing, “It’s the future, it’s where we’re going, I suspect whether we like it or not. That’s where we’re going, it’s space. That’s the next step. And we have to be prepared. Adversaries… and whether we get along with ’em or not, they’re up in space. And they’re doing it and we’re doing it and that’s going to be a very big part of where the defense of our nation. And you could say offense but let’s be nice about it and say the defense of our nation is going to be.

The U.S. Air Force currently oversees the domain of space through the U.S. Space Command.

Trump officially organizes the Space Force under the Air Force ... for now

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed a directive centralizing all military space functions under a new Space Force, which will be overseen by the Department of the Air Force.

While it is technically up to Congress to approve the creation of the Space Force, a sixth military branch that would organize, train and equip a corps of military space personnel, Trump’s signing of Space Policy Directive 4 marks the first time the administration has made clear how the new service would fit into the existing military structure.

“Today, I’m thrilled to sign a new order taking the next step to create the United States Space Force," Trump said during the signing ceremony. "So important, when you look at defense, when you look at all of the other aspects of where the world will be someday. I mean, this is the beginning. This is a very important process.”

According to SPD-4, the Space Force will initially reside under the Department of the Air Force and it will be led by a civilian undersecretary of the Air Force for space as well as a four-star general serving as the Space Force chief of staff — a measure that is less ambitious than the stand-alone service originally envisioned by the president.

However, an administration official who spoke to reporters Tuesday morning maintained that putting the new service under the Air Force was “a step toward a future separate military department for space” and that the administration would make periodic reviews to see when it would make sense to deliver a second legislative proposal calling for a separate Department of the Space Force.

One of the biggest congressional critics of a separate space service, Rep. Mike Turner, R-Ohio, released a statement seemingly in support of SPD-4. That would be a massive reversal from his previous stance, which saw Turner trying to block legislation to stand up a Space Corps in 2017.

“Today’s signing of the Space Policy Directive – 4 is the first step in a process which may create the capabilities we need to ensure our success in the domain of space,” said Turner, who is the top Republican on the House Armed Services Strategic Forces subcommittee.

"I believe it is important that space capabilities remain under the Air Force’s domain As we look towards Congress’s responsibility in legislating further on this issue, I look forward to working with my counterparts on the Strategic Forces Subcommittee to ensure that the President’s proposal satisfies our space needs, is cost effective, and results in increased capabilities.”

SPD-4 stipulates that all uniformed and civilian personnel currently supporting space operations will funnel into the Space Force. That means that certain Army and Navy personnel could find themselves in a new service under the discretion of the Air Force.

“We don’t anyone to be hurt if they transfer over into the Space Force,” the administration official said. “We’ll be moving, I think, fairly slowly, focusing on the headquarters functions to begin with, and then there will a lot of activity that will simply be moved over for people doing space operations. Then we will be laying out career tracks for people farther up.”

Meanwhile, intelligence agencies like the National Reconnaissance Office will continue to reside separately from the Space Force, as will agencies like NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

It’s still unclear how much it will cost to stand up the service. The senior administration official told reporters that initial costs would amount to less than $100 million on top of what the services already budgeted to carry out space operations, but there may be a need to increase funding for military space activities in the future.

“If we take more aggressive actions for building up resiliency of our systems, creating counter-space capabilities and counter adversary threats, those things will cost more money,” he said.

In September, the Air Force released its own $13 billion estimate of the costs over the next five years to stand up both a Space Force and a U.S. Space Command, a unified combatant command that will oversee space operations. That proposal also would integrate elements of NRO with the Space Force — a path of which the administration opted out.

Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson said she stands by that estimate, even as Patrick Shanahan, now the acting secretary of defense, contends that creating a Space Force could cost less than $5 billion.

During an event at the Brookings Institution on Tuesday morning, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Dave Goldfein confirmed that the president would sign off on a plan laying out how the Space Force would be organized.

But the most important step to move space operations forward, Goldfein argued, is to set up a U.S. Space Command led by a four-star combatant commander — a move that does not need the approval of Congress and is separate from the Space Force directive.

“What’s going to roll out today is a service within the Department of the Air Force,” he said. “There’s a thousand decisions that have to be made to be able to work to the intricate details of how we move forward in establishing the service within the Department of the Air Force. But essential to me though, first and foremost, is the combatant command.”

As only Congress can create a new branch of the military, the administration’s next step is putting forward a “legislative proposal” that the House and Senate can consider passing into law.

“We’re going to get the proposal up to them as soon as we can. Initial informal conversations, I think, have been very encouraging,” the administration official said. “I think it can get done this year.”

Trump apparently agreed, telling reporters that he expects the Space Force proposal to have “great support” from Congress.

Chinese President Xi Jinping raised the specter of a violent crackdown on protesters against the Communist government, as Beijing rebuffs international condemnation for human rights abuses.

"Anyone attempting to split China in any part of the country will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones," Xi said Sunday, per state-run media.

That warning was issued from Nepal, where thousands of Tibetan Buddhists have taken refuge from Chinese Communist rule. But the blanket threat is likely a message to the protesters in Hong Kong and Western-allied leaders of Taiwan, whom Chinese officials regard as "separatists" and advocates of "secessionism" from the mainland government.

"And any external forces backing such attempts at dividing China will be deemed by the Chinese people as pipe-dreaming," Xi also said.

Hong Kong has been rocked by protests for months, as dissidents were outraged by the Beijing-backed local government's attempt to pass an extradition bill that would allow mainland Chinese authorities to take custody of Hong Kong residents based on flimsy evidence. The proposed bill tapped into deeper suspicions that China is trying to undermine the autonomy that was promised to Hong Kong when the United Kingdom relinquished sovereignty over the former colony in 1997.

"We've seen over two million people come to the streets standing up for freedom, standing up for democracy, and standing up against the oppression of the Chinese Communist regime," Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said Sunday while traveling in Hong Kong. "I think it is very much in the United States interests to support the people of Hong Kong. I'm here, I'm dressed in all black standing in solidarity with the protesters."

Chinese authorities have accused the United States of orchestrating the protests, but local activists have been pleading for American support for months.

Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Authorities arrested a Defense Intelligence Agency official Wednesday for leaking classified information linked to the security of a foreign country to two journalists, the Justice Department revealed.

Henry Kyle Frese, 30, faces two counts of willful transmission of national defense information for allegedly releasing the information in 2018 and 2019 to two unidentified reporters.

The Department of Justice said Frese accessed classified intelligence reports -- some unrelated to his job duties -- and gave the information to a journalist with whom he apparently lived. Officials speculated he had a romantic relationship with the journalist.

The journalist then asked Frese if he could speak to a second, more senior journalist, to which he agreed if it helped with the first journalist's career. The Justice Department said the second journalist spoke with Frese and later published an article containing information from a top secret report.

"As laid out in today's indictment, Frese was caught red-handed disclosing sensitive national security information for personal gain," said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers. "Frese betrayed the trust placed in him by the American people -- a betrayal that risked harming the national security of this country."

Frese faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted on both counts.

TRUMP RIDS MAJOR U.S. CONTAINER PORT OF CHINESE COMMUNIST CONTROL

Under a long-term deal sealed by the Obama administration, a Chinese Communist company was set to control the second-busiest container port in the United States. In an unreported Trump administration victory, the Communists are out after a drawn-out national security review forced a unit of China-based COSCO Shipping Holdings Co. (Orient Overseas Container Line OOCL) to sell the cherished container terminal business, which handles among the largest freight of imports into the U.S.

It all started with a 40-year container terminal lease between the Port of Long Beach in southern California and Hong Kong. The Obama administration proudly signed the agreement in 2012 giving China control of America's second-largest container port behind the nearby Port of Los Angeles. One of the Trump administration's first big moves was to get the Communists out of the Port of Long Beach. After a national security review and federal intervention, the Long Beach terminal business, which handles millions of containers annually, is finally being sold to an Australian company called Macquarie Infrastructure Partners. That essentially kills China's decades-long contract with the Obama administration.

The deal never should have been signed in the first place considering the facility's size, significance and the national security issues associated with a hostile foreign government controlling it. The southern California port is the premier U.S. gateway for trans-Pacific trade, according to its website, and handles trade valued at more than $194 billion annually.

It is one of the few ports that can accommodate the world's largest vessels and serves 140 shipping lines with connections to 217 seaports around the world. The facility encompasses 3,200 acres with 31 miles of waterfront, 10 piers,??62 berths and 68 post-Panamax gantry cranes. In 2018, the Long Beach port handled more than??8 million container units, achieving the busiest year in its history.

Removing Chinese Communists from this essential port is a tremendous feat and a huge victory for U.S. national security. You'd never know it because the media, consumed with the impeachment debacle, has ignored this important achievement. The only coverage of the finalized transfer is found in Long Beach's local newspaper, which published a brief article omitting important background information on the Trump administration's work to take back the terminal from the Communists. The story makes it seem like a regular business transaction in which "a Chinese state-owned company, reached a deal to sell the terminal, one of the busiest in the port, for $1.78 billion."??The piece also quotes the Port of Long Beach's deputy executive director saying that the transaction process was intricate and involved one of "our most valuable port assets."

Buried at the bottom of the article is a sentence mentioning that the U.S. government, which regulates mergers for antitrust and security reasons, stepped in and required COSCO to sell its rights to the container terminal.

In the last few years China has bought cargo ports throughout the world, including in Latin America, the Indian Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Chinese-owned ports are located in Greece, Italy, Spain and other European locations. In sub-Saharan Africa there are dozens of existing or planned port projects funded or operated by China, according to a study that highlights the threat the Chinese investments present to U.S. influence in the region. One troubling analysis points out that "COSCO's commercial expansion has created leverage for Beijing   leverage that has already resulted in countries that host COSCO ports adopting China's position on key international issues."

Yes, "China" and China were very aggressive about taking ports...from Panama Canal to the seemingly littlest port authority...in 2012, I was presented an offer from "China", via China, for 100% cash trade for the 440+ Million (gold currency/USD equiv) in receivables created from the mortgage fraud and judicial corruption investigations 2010-12, Washington State.  Selling to China was never even a consideration.  Claire Petrich, a close friend of mine at the time and a long-time family friend of the Tucci family, was one of the Tacoma Port Commissioners...and she would tell me about the security issues they faced in general, geopolitical bullshit with harmful ramifications on humanity reminiscent of her time at the US embassy in Libya when it was shut down decades ago...plus, the stories from my friend Troy, multi-generational longshoreman at Port of Tacoma that was permanently injured in a non-reported terrorist event...

..."China"/China's "ways" are well known, completely predictable (my love and awareness to Mark Lindquist and Judge Jack Nevin)...and even in 2012, despite the seeming comfort such a bribe would provide, to even consider selling and putting Washington State and those in Washington State further in the hands of China/"China", ET AL, than they already were, in my mind and heart, WAS/WOULD BE treason... WAS/WOULD BE contrary to Freedom... WAS/WOULD BE contrary to Creation... WAS/WOULD BE contrary to ALL I AM ...and it would have put me, my family, and all of humanity in even more of a dangerous situation..... money/commerce as it was previously designed was a tool to serve lack of consciousness, the energy disguised as said receivables sat untouched and protected, now coming out of/emerging from CONVERSION (similar to the caterpillar emerging as a butterfly) for the benefit of All...
