Portia is the protagonist of William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice. A rich, beautiful, and intelligent heiress of Belmont, she is bound by the lottery set forth in her father's will, which gives potential suitors the chance to choose among three caskets. If he chooses the right casket, he wins Portia's hand in marriage. If he chooses the incorrect casket, he must leave and never seek another woman in marriage. She is said to be blonde and has curly hair. As Bassanio says to Antonio in (Act I scene I), she is more beautiful than the word itself. It is also seen that she is racist as she says that she will rather accept The Prince of Morocco as her religious adviser than her husband because of his dark complexion, which she refers as that of The Devil. She favours a young Venetian noble, soldier and a scholar, Bassanio. Later in the play, she disguises herself as a man, then assumes the role of a lawyer's apprentice (named Balthazar) whereby she saves the life of Bassanio's friend, Antonio, in court.

Portia is also fond of wordplay and proverbs, frequently quoting and coining them, which was considered a sign of wisdom and sharp wit in Elizabethan era. Some suggest that the character of Portia was based on queen Elizabeth herself, who also had a penchant for proverbs.

In the court scenes, Portia finds a technicality in the bond, thereby outwitting Shylock and saving Antonio's life when everyone else including Antonio fails. It is Portia who delivers one of the most famous speeches in The Merchant of Venice:

It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest:

It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.

I was pretty sick for about 10 days, snowed in, unable to go anywhere, not even a doctor.  Plus my car was stuck in the mud. We've had a very severe winter here, snow like they have not had in decades.

I had some sort of a lung congestion, whether it was pneumonia or mycoplasmic I don't know.  The effect was much the same.  I didn't really know if I would survive last weekend.   But I did.  And lungs are now clear.  Had some pretty amazing dreams during this all.

Those of you more experienced with snowy climates I am in awe of your hardiness!

This "Open Lines" began as an inquiry to the large sphere's being seen coming in and out of the Sun, as noticed by the "the cats" at https://schrodingersothercat.blog.  The inquiry went a direction I didn't expect but am delighted to hear about!  There's more going on here than just some Galactic Sphere's popping in to see what they new kids on the block are up to.

Denice got this bit of data yesterday:

Denice: I am feeeling big shifts among possibilities and potentialities. 

Terran: What kind of shifts? 

Denice: For me it feels like things are new, clean, fresh, cleared. 

Denice: I think we are on the "new" earth. Or "original" earth. 

Denice: What I heard this morning from that male [a galactic] is that they are probably going through what we are. They can only see what they see.

The being speaking in the following conversation,  only identifies as "I AM". He (and he felt male to me)  uses the term "MADDNESS" (with two Ds).  I thought this was curious so I didn't some research into that particular spelling.  This seems to fit the best to the context of the message, that which is happening now is UNLIKE ANYTHING ever seen before, and those who have believed they know it all from their theories of the cosmos will probably be the most "MADDEN" by what happens now...  The rest of us will relax, have our cookies and milk and watch the show!

Denice: funny thing is open lines was not on my radar for this weekend. . .but j is working at the table on some blueprints, and S is doing homework.. .and I am done with the kitchen and cooking for today
